How to apply

Pre-check

During the pre-check, all applications are reviewed internally by the office to ensure they meet the investment criteria. If they do, the startup moves on to the next round.

Screening

During the screening process, our Business Angels have the opportunity to analyze the startups and signal their interest in a potential investment. If at least one of our members does so, the startup advances to the next round.

Intro call

Interested Business Angels and the BACB team organize a joint call with the startup to get to know the founding team and the idea better. // The startup moves forward if a member agrees to act as lead angel.

Steering

At Steering Day, the Lead Angels internally present the respective startups and promote them for a place at Pitching Day and to attract further interested parties. // If the startup is among the top 6, 7, or 8 in the subsequent voting, it advances to the next round and participates in Pitching Day.

Pitching day

The selected startups present their ideas in 5-minute pitches and 5-minute Q&A sessions and pitch to interested Business Angels. // Before, during, and after PitchingDay, Business Angels have the opportunity to signal their interest in funding. If at least one member does so, the startup advances to the next round.

Terms&dd

Follow-up calls are used to clarify any outstanding questions and define the legal framework for an investment. // Once all parties have agreed on the content and legal aspects, the contract is signed and the investment is made by the Business Angels or the Berlin Angel Fund.

FAQS

What can I expect from an application at BACB?

The Business Angels Club supports entrepreneurial action in order to actively help shape a constantly renewing, livable society with attractive workplaces, products, and services. The Business Angels Club and its members volunteer as mentors for innovative, growth-oriented startups with a scalable business concept.

They are committed to an open, transparent approach with the companies presented in the club and network. Fair treatment on equal terms with entrepreneurs and founders is just as much part of their self-image as equal and collaborative action by individual club members in supporting the founding teams.

Within the framework of mentorship and for the duration of the support projects, the business angels work without compensation, do not initiate commission-based transactions, do not solicit founders/entrepreneurs as clients, and do not provide client representation.

How much do business angels usually invest?

A typical business angel investment starts at €10,000 and less frequently at €50,000, with our median at around €25,000 per investment. Super angels invest between €100,000 and €500,000 per startup, usually entering at seed rounds – comparable to venture capital investors.

How long does it take to secure an investment?

It generally takes three to six months to receive funding from business angels. Of course, there are exceptions.

How does a business angel get involved?

Business angels usually participate with equity investments, for which they receive company shares.

Loans are rare and are primarily granted to bridge difficult business situations or to pre-finance goods.
